But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? These three short works show Austen experimenting with a variety of different literary styles, from melodrama to satire, and exploring a range of social classes and settings. The early epistolary novel Lady Susan depicts an unscrupulous coquette toying with the affections of several men. Beautiful Classic
- By Kait on 27-10-2015
Publisher's Summary
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.
In Pride and Prejudice, the Bennet sisters try to find their way in the repressive strictures of 19th-century society. Austen shows the folly of judging by first impressions and the experience of falling in love, and she superbly describes a world which, despite being more than two centuries old, still resonates with modern concerns.
Critic Reviews
"British actress Rosamund Pike is the perfect choice to narrate this novel of manners, and listening to her voice each of the iconic characters is great fun.... Austen's many devotees will savor this first-rate version of her charming novel." ( AudioFile)

Great romance
Most memorable moment was when darcy expressed his feelings. My heart was pouncing the whole time. No sexual desires, no motives, no plotting just a very innocent romance based solemly on Darcy and Elizabeth's pure feelings. Loved it😍😊

Rosamund Pike made annoying characters better
I have read the book, listened to many versions of Pride and Predjudice and watched both the TV Series and Movie (argh...) and somehow Rosamund Pike made characters that always seemed to annoy me less irritating. The story is a classic that really captures the readers and transports them into the 19th century that I know me and my mouth would never survive in. There are many versions of this book with a different narrator but I found this one to be my favourite (but each to their own). Either way it is a story that everyone should have read/listened to at least once

Very enjoyable
I loved it, the world created by our author is incredibly captivating, the characters more so. I don't think I ever enjoyed an audiobook as much as this particular one. It was tranquil, exiciting, engaging, frustrating and humorous, the kind of book you'd enjoyed over tea as it also has a calming effect.I however finished the whole 11+ hours in one day because I was so curious and captivated by the unpredictability and realness of each character and how they interact.
As this it the first book I have read from Jane Austen, you'll definitely fine me reading the rest. Also the narrator was absolutely amazing. I had almost missed out on this story as the other narrations of 'Pride And Prejudice' was very hard to follow.
