Feeling the tension between his understanding of the Bible and the reality of his same-sex orientation, Vines devoted years of intensive research into what the Bible says about homosexuality.

This is the subject of his first book, Messy Grace - holding on to the truth of God's Word while being filled with grace.

Story
Life throws us “curve balls”—from devastating personal losses to world tragedies. These events often leave us doubting God, the Bible, and our faith. But instead of pushing away our reservations, we should embrace them, Peter Enns argues. A leading biblical scholar and Christian mentor, Enns has never been afraid to question the Bible or Christian beliefs. Such thoughtful inquisitiveness, he argues, is part of God’s plan. He wants us to question, because doing so actually leads to a stronger, lasting faith.

Story
If the Bible isn’t a science book or an instruction manual, then what is it? What do people mean when they say the Bible is inspired? When Rachel Held Evans found herself asking these questions, she began a quest to better understand what the Bible is and how it is meant to be read. What she discovered changed her—and it will change you too.
Drawing on the best in recent scholarship and using her well-honed literary expertise, Evans examines some of our favorite Bible stories and possible interpretations, retelling them through memoir, original poetry, short stories, soliloquies, and even a short screenplay. Undaunted by the Bible’s most difficult passages, Evans wrestles through the process of doubting, imagining, and debating Scripture’s mysteries. The Bible, she discovers, is not a static work but is a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that is able to equip us to join God’s loving and redemptive work in the world.

Growing up in a deeply evangelical family in the Midwest in the ‘80s and ‘90s, Sarah McCammon was strictly taught to fear God, obey him, and not question the faith. Persistently worried that her gay grandfather would go to hell unless she could reach him, or that her Muslim friend would need to be converted, and that she, too, would go to hell if she did not believe fervently enough, McCammon was a rule-follower. But through it all, she was plagued by fears and deep questions as the belief system she'd been carefully taught clashed with her expanding understanding of the outside world.

Beautiful, heart-wrenching tribute to RHE's legacy
- By hrappell on 07-11-2021
Publisher's Summary
When Christian singer and speaker Staci Frenes learned her teenage daughter was gay, she found her dreams for the future - along with her lifelong faith - collapsing around her. Coming to terms with a new reality was a challenge - and an invitation - to make room for many things along the way: the inevitability of uncertainty, hope in the midst of loss, awkward and tough conversations, an expanding faith, and a greater understanding of how people are more the same than different.
In Love Makes Room, Frenes helps listeners see that a reimagined future may look different than our old hoped-for pictures of ourselves and our families, but it can also be wider, deeper, and more fulfilling than we've ever dreamed.

Awesome book that I highly recommend
I just finished listening to the audio book and as each chapter was finished I couldn't wait to listen to the next one. This is a topic that very few churches in my experience openly talks about or have sermons on. However, it is a much needed topic in todays world to have open and honest conversations about.
This book makes me think of other marginalized groups who are treated or thought as different, but more importantly how God's love is demonstrated by these real life experiences in this book. These experience has helped me to understand the true heart of God. Sometimes, it is easy for anyone to get fixated on the technical aspects of religion that can lead us away from its true meaning. So reading this story truly was an eye opening experience for me in helping me see others as God sees them: as God's wonderful creation.
