Publisher's Summary
They had only one thing in common - William Lowell Kane and Abel Rosnovski, one the son of a Boston millionaire, the other a penniless Polish immigrant. Two men born on the same day on opposite sides of the world, their paths were destined to cross in the ruthless struggle to build a fortune.
The marvellous story, spanning 60 years, of two powerful men linked by an all-consuming hatred, brought together by fate to save - and finally destroy - each other.

Excellent journey through the lives of two men
Two ambitious men from diametrical backgrounds, come into conflict that breeds a mutual hatred over their lifetimes. This book made me think about how short life is and age tends to elucidate what is important in life and the regret of time wasted on matters of pride.
The narrator's voices for the two main characters was great, giving life to Kane's bostonian roots and Abel's impoverished heritage. Kane and Abel both garner my admiration and their fued made me genuinely sad. I enjoyed the tactics employed by the two men and it was a pleasure following their lives.
Sometimes I felt that there could have been more density in terms of character developement, as years would pass by quickly and characters would have evolved but I feel like we missed out on seeing how they evolved. But I guess the book would then be twice as long or cover a less expansive amount of time.
I also thought that William disappeared for a part of the book (where it folllows Richard instead) and by the time he reappeard he seemed much older, not just physically but in his personality.
I loved the story overall and am very happy with my purchase. I thought the audio was great, especially for the central protagonists. I will definetly listen to it again in the future.
