First drink. First prank. First friend. First love. Last words.
Miles Halter is fascinated by famous last words - and tired of his safe life at home. He leaves for boarding school to seek what the dying poet François Rabelais called the “Great Perhaps”. Much awaits Miles at Culver Creek, including Alaska Young, who will pull Miles into her labyrinth and catapult him into the Great Perhaps.
Looking for Alaska brilliantly chronicles the indelible impact one life can have on another. A modern classic, this stunning debut marked number one best-selling author John Green’s arrival as a groundbreaking new voice in contemporary fiction.
Critic Reviews
"What sets this novel apart is the brilliant, insightful, suffering but enduring voice of Miles Halter." (Chicago Tribune)
"A gem of modern literature." (Guardian)
"What sings and soars in this gorgeously told tale is Green’s mastery of language and the sweet, rough edges of Pudge’s voice." (Kirkus)

Good book well read by Ensign Wesley Crusher
Good book well read by Ensign Wesley Crusher. A lot of cigarette smoking but wrestles with some important issues about which you are forced as a reader to make judgements.

Amazingly written
John Green has written a seemingly charged book on teenage angst, fitting in, expectations of boarding school Emerging sexuality, then it turns into a much deeper, beautifully terrible account of the darker parts of being human. A book that leaves you feeling pummeled yet thinking deeply.
I found Will Wheaton’s narration, a little bit annoying initially, but I warmed to him as the story progressed

Teen Angst in All its Glory
I read this cause of the reading list required for highschool teachers. I like it a lot, but it felt very taxing as I got to jump back into my angsty dramatic teen self who needed support and help. The first thing I could think of writing about the book was that it was a Sad and Horny Mixtape of Teenage Angst. I loved the story, the themes and the overall images that John Green makes. But I did struggle with the voice work and at times felt like Wil dragged down the content, but honestly that could just be my taste and preference of performers. Overall good experience, I can definitely recomend as well as warn for the flood of teen emotions.

have a go
I read this story years ago on the train through Europe. I havew read the other books by John Green, but like with all authors, you always have your favourite and this is my one. I am not going to review the story but I will say, that this story has made me really think about the people we surround us with, will affect your lives in unique and different ways but only if we allow them too. This story is a great Sunday afternoon read or listen. All I can say, just give it a try. You may like it or you may not.

Will Wheaton is brilliant as is John Green
I loved that Will narrated John Greens “Looking for Alaska”. It was true to the book and helped the imagery in your mind the same way as it does reading the physical book itself. I’ve not read the “book” since 2006 but loved Will’s take on it. An absolute must of any John Green fan, and Will’s of course. Five stars all around.
