I love Marc Fennell, but…

I hate to say it but this one wasn’t his best work. I absolutely loved Stuff the British Stole, and It Burns was great.

But this one felt like something that should have been on Stuff the British Stole, only it was too long for one episode. Unfortunately, I think it was also not quite enough material to stretch out into a whole 6 parter. I feel like if it was 90mins to 2hrs it would have been perfect.

There were certainly parts I enjoyed, and I was all set to be teased by a classic Marc Fennell historical mystery. But it had a few too many moving parts and deviances from the main through line. I found myself getting a little mixed up or lost at times and having to go back and re-listen here and there (this maybe says more about my attention span than anything else though).

I also found the ending just…not as satisfying as some of Marc’s other work. I don’t know what I expected, I just feel like it didn’t have the most compelling conclusion.

I’m absolutely revolted with myself to have to leave anything less than a glowing review, because I seriously love Marc Fennell. He is incredible.

You’ll get me on the next one, Marc, I know it!
