Publisher's Summary

The incredible first memoir by System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian

With nearly 40 million record sales, three albums topping the Billboard charts, a Grammy win and a legion of fans, System Of A Down are one of the biggest metal bands on the planet. At their core has always been Serj Tankian, whose journey from the streets of Beirut to rock superstardom is as remarkable and unlikely as you'll get.

By dint of luck, circumstance, struggle, and more than a little talent, Serj has had the chance to live an extraordinary life. In Down With the System, he retraces this remarkable and unlikely journey, and explores what it's taught him - about music, about art, about activism, and about himself. From teaming up with Tom Morello to push social justice causes on unsuspecting metalheads, arguing with LAPD officers over the best way to quell his rioting fans, and traveling with Anthony Bourdain through Armenia one meal at a time, Down With the System is an immigrant's tale, an activist's awakening, and rock memoir unlike any other.

A fresh prospective to Serj himself

I loved this book and have a new respect and understanding to both Serj and System of a down's music and message. This is a must read/listen

The memories!

This book let me in on more of the Serj I met back in 2002 and the person he has become. it brought back fantastic memories of the time I spent with him in my hometown and at the big day out in Sydney. Loved it Serj and congrats on your family! Jamie

Wowza…

I have been a massive SOAD fan for years, however listening to this memoir - of sorts gave me a whole new appreciation for the band, for the Armenian history, for the very reason they do what they do. Well worth the listen. 🤟

Everything you expect from Serj but with the detail needed to understand.

No review needed, If you know System then you know Serj and the direction this is heading.
you may have heard snippets over time as I did and this does all those hear-say's justice and then some.

A wonderful book that educates both about politics and about a world loved band.

Serj did such a beautiful job combining both information to spread awareness and to talk about a band that many of us love. His mixture between stories of his family’s struggles and successes, as well as the backstory to different songs SOAD created was beautifully balanced and encapsulating. He’s a true artist and activist.

Thank you Serj and SOAD for creating a space for awareness on genocide to the Armenian people to those who would have otherwise never had the opportunity to learn. I’m in Australia and I had only learned of the Genocide in Armenia through SOAD and now through this book.
I genuinely hope that he decides to release more art to educate as it’s been amazing to hear it from someone who had a big impact on my childhood through music.
